Marine Claims Procedures

 

Marine – Cargo claims

 

If loss or damage is discovered upon inspection of your cargo/goods, you should contact us immediately and follow the following steps:

 

1. Take all reasonable steps to minimize any further loss or damage and not dispose of any damaged goods

 

2. Take note of the loss or damages when signing for receipt of the goods from the transport company and/or submit a written claim against the carrier using your company letterhead within 3 days of goods being delivered

 

3. Complete our Claims Form available here

 

4. Provide the following information with the Claims form:

    - Original freight note or carbon copy

    - Bill of Lading

    - Shipper’s Invoice/Proof of value of consignment

    - Certificate of Insurance

    - Rejected steamship claim

    - Landing certificate or surveyor’s report

    - Letter of demand to/from any third parties involved in the

      accident

 

Once the claim documents are submitted, the circumstances of the claim will be investigated by the insurer’s loss adjuster and a settlement between yourself and the Insurer’s will be made.

 

 

Marine – Hull claims

 

If an incident happens to your shipping vessel or leisure craft, you should contact us immediately as well follow these steps:

 

1. Take all reasonable steps to minimize any further loss or damage

 

2. Report details of the incident to us, including:

    - Dates and times of incident

    - Names and contact details of any witnesses

    - A diagram of the scene – in the event of a collision or grounding, it will assist

      with the understanding of the circumstances of the accident

 

3. Completed Claims Form available here

 

4. The following documents will need to be provided to us, together with the

    claims form

    - Photographs of the damage

    - Quotation/invoices for repair/replacement

    - Masters/Chief engineers/accident/incident report/notice

    - Letter of demand to/from any third parties involved in the

      accident

    - Copy of the vessel’s class maintained certificate (if applicable)

 

5. If there has been any malicious damage, burglary or theft, the Police, Coast             Guard, or Maritime authority must be notified. Provide report of this if available.

 

Once the claim documents are submitted, the circumstances of the claim will be investigated by the insurer’s loss adjuster and a settlement between yourself and the Insurer’s will be made.
